Barcelona, Madrid y Bilbao lideran el ránking de las ciudades más innovadoras de España, elaborado por la consultora 2thinknow. Les siguen, a cierta distancia y por este orden, Pamplona, Sevilla, Valencia, Granada. A nivel europeo, Barcelona ocupa la posición 16, Madrid la 36 y Bilbao la 70.
Este ránking clasifica 289 ciudades del mundo, entre las que figuran las 7 españolas antes mencionadas. A partir de una serie de datos relacionados con sus valores culturales, sus infraestructuras humanas (startups, salud…) y sus mercados en red. Como resultado de ese ránking, se clasifica a las ciudades en cinco grupos: nexo, hub, nodo, influenciador, upstart. Solo Barcelona alcanza la categoría de nexo, mientras Madrid es hub y Bilbao, Pamplona, Sevilla y Valencia figuran como nodos.
