Madrid, entre las 10 ciudades más sostenibles del mundo

Madrid ocupa el puesto número 9 en el Índice de Ciudades Sostenibles de Arcadis, elaborado por el Centre for Economics and Business Research de Londres, que evalúa tres indicadores -medio ambiente, sociedad y economía- para confeccionar una lista de las 50 principales metrópolis del mundo. La capital española es la única del país (Barcelona no figura entre las 50 primeras) en este ranking que se nutre de datos de la ONU, el Banco Mundial o la Organización Mundial de la Salud.
Siete de las urbes que ocupan los lugares más destacados son europeas y tres son asiáticas. La consultora Arcadis mide en el apartado de Planeta el consumo y cuota de las energías renovables, las tasas de reciclaje, las emisiones de efecto invernadero, agua potable, contaminación del aire… Aquí es donde Madrid alcanza su mejor posición, el número 4, sólo por detrás de Frankfurt, Berlín y Copenhague. Le siguen Rótterdam, Ámsterdam, Singapur, Roma, Toronto y Birmingham (Reino Unido).
El informe evalúa en el apartado de Personas, entre otros indicadores, las tarifas de las infraestructuras de transporte, la salud, la educación, la desigualdad de ingresos, la ratio de espacios verdes… Son, en definitiva, medidores de la ‘calidad de vida’ de una ciudad. Madrid está en el puesto 14 de la lista. El tercer índice, Ganancias o Beneficios valora la sostenibilidad económica desde una perspectiva empresarial, combinando indicadores de transporte (ferroviario, aéreo, público…), la facilidad de hacer negocios, el PIB y la renta per cápita, la importancia de la metrópoli en la red económica mundial, etcétera. Madrid ocupa el décimo lugar de 50 ciudades.
