La UIT destaca la red municipal de Piraí

La Unión Internacional de Telecomunicaciones (UIT), un organismo dependiente de la ONU, destaca en su último informe anual el caso de la red municipal de la localidad brasileña de Piraí. Se trata de un proyecto digital lanzado en 2004 y basado en una infraestructura wi-fi que, con la ayuda de software libre, conecta oficinas del gobierno local y que está gestionada por un consorcio del que forman parte vecinos, ONGs, universidades, negocios y hasta sindicatos.

Pero lo más interesante para la UIT no es la red sino el uso que se le está dando, absolutamente innovador. En Piraí, además de conexión, se proporcionan foros de discusión, sistemas de e-learning, servicios públicos y, sobre todo, herramientas para los emprendedores locales. “Hasta ahora se ha dado mucha importancia a la cobertura universal, pero ahora deberíamos reforzar las exigencias de innovación”, indica el informe de la UIT.
